Kristof starts off his essay questioning the Obama administration's ideas on labor standards, by offering them a visit to a garage dump where poverty stricken people live. He explains this to show  that poorer countries problems are not that sweatshops exploit too many people, but that they don't exploit enough in some cases. The author assumes that his readers are out of touch to the fact that some people use jobs at sweatshops as a means of survival. His purpose is to detail poverty in other countries in order to bring forth awareness and to question labor standard laws.             In order to accomplish this purpose, Kristof uses examples of residents in these horrific dumps. He appeals mostly to out of touch people in society, by creating sympathy by telling their sad stories, which include scavenging for plastic thru dumps for a living. He appeals to the audience by using Aristotle's "Pathos", by conveying his argument thru use of solemn test

Violent Media and our Youth; Blog post #3

Within Gerard Jones article, he states how in certain instances violent media could have a positive impact on growing youth. His argument is backed with examples of kids he has worked with, who used violent media, such as comic books and video games, as way to express suppressed feelings, overcome fears, and raise self-esteem. The story he uses of his own son who was at one point afraid to climb trees, but eventually got over his fear by reading Tarzan comics backs his argument with evidence. He even goes as far as to include refutations from parents and teachers who disagree with his argument. Me personally, I agree with Gerard to a certain extent. I feel that every child should have an outlet that they use to express themselves. It's up to the parents to teach their children the right way to do that. Expression of oneself is something that cannot be taught though, so instead of teaching I feel it's the parents responsibility to police what outlets they use. I say this be

An argument is an exchange between individuals that everyone has experienced at least once.  I say that because as humans, we're all different. We all have a different thought process and handle situations differently from others. From that statement I pose the question, why do people argue? Arguments can stem from conflicting opinions about a certain topic. These opinions are shared with the purpose of influencing the other parties mind. I've come to learn that they're many different ways people can argue, some include formal and informal arguments. Some ways a person can argue formally is by using the same language one would use in an academic discussion. Some ways one can argue informally is by using the same language the use in their daily life. These arguments could stem up from such topics as politics, sports, and social issues. Thru the spreading of propaganda is another way people choose to argue their views.

Throughout the 21st century, the use of technology has grown at an alarming rate. As time continues to move forward, technology is predicted to continue its advancement as well. This in turn will bring many new changes to the way people live their daily life. An important example of change is shown thru social media. Is this necessarily a good change for our society? I often find myself torn when addressing this argument since I am an avid user of social media, but I also feel it should be something used sparingly. I feel that the use of social media is great since it connects people of different backgrounds and helps create a dialogue between them. It is also great tool for the spreading of current news and for important news that is often overlooked. Though social media has become an important tool for the spread of information it also has its downsides. I feel social media should be used sparingly since it limits the use of human interaction which is something I feel is neces

About Me

Image
Not too fond of creating a good blog post, but i'll try my best. Hey everyone, my name is Xavier Wilson and i'm currently a freshman here at GGC. I'm a 20 year old student originally from Washington D.C, where I lived up until I turned about 9 years old. From there, I moved to Fayetteville, NC where I would spend most of my adolescence until my 11th grade year in high school. Living in NC was very different experience for me since I was used to living in a big city, but in a way, I feel it helped me grow as a person. From there, I relocated to Gwinnett County where I would eventually graduate from Lanier High School.  Some of my interest include composing and writing music, as well as producing. I also enjoy photography, playing football, basketball, rapping, collecting clothes and sneakers, listening to music, and hanging out with my friends. I hope to gain more journalistic skills from taking this course. #JetsGo
